Growing partnerships to harvest change

Annual report 2024

A woman voicing her opinion in a cooperative meeting

Especially in times like these, with international cooperation under strain, we believe the answer lies in forging even stronger, deeper collaborations and connections.

Our 2024 report is a tribute to the power of partnerships: from scaling sustainable rice in Vietnam and Indonesia, over co-creating climate-smart coffee production in Uganda, to championing the right to good food in Honduras.

Lasting change can only be built together, and we are grateful for the loyal support of our donors and partners.

Sustainable rice

Thanks to our sustainable rice programme, more than 17,498 farmers are now getting a better deal by producing rice that’s good for people and the planet. Working alongside our partners, we have helped to bring over 25,516 tonnes of sustainable rice to market, enough to provide healthier food choices for up to 244,000 people.

This shift is reinforced by 51 companies that have established formal contracts or clear informal agreements with farming organisations, thereby building trust and transparency within the supply chain. 60 market actors have integrated inclusive practices into their business models, and an increasing number of women (82) and young people (70) are driving innovation through agribusinesses.

Our efforts are supported by 9 multi-stakeholder platforms that promote sustainable rice production and 23 regulatory measures.

Good Food for cities

Across 4 cities in Senegal and Burkina Faso, we're working to make healthy, nutritious diets accessible to the majority of consumers, while ensuring that the people behind our food also thrive.

Over 7,222 farmers are now getting a better deal by supplying quality food to urban markets, supported by 3 market actors that have embedded inclusive practices into their operations.

Together with our partners, we’ve helped channel more than 28,212 tonnes of sustainable, nutritious food into the market and supported the transition to regenerative agriculture on 264 hectares of land. Young people are stepping up too: 186 aspiring entrepreneurs are now better equipped with the business and skills to shape the food systems of tomorrow.

This shift is rooted in collaboration: 6 multi-stakeholder platforms are driving change on the ground and 2 new or improved regulatory measures now support more inclusive and sustainable food systems.

Sustainable Cocoa and Coffee

In 2024, over 14,000 cocoa and coffee farmers gained better market opportunities thanks to more inclusive and transparent business relationships. In collaboration with private companies, we implemented 5 sustainability programmes, and 6,917 farmers improved their food security by diversifying their production systems to include food crops alongside cocoa and coffee farming.

We promoted sustainable production systems such as dynamic agroforestry, covering 2,537 hectares. These systems help to restore soil health, increase biodiversity and make farms more resilient to climate shocks. As a result, 3,045 tonnes of cocoa and coffee were produced sustainably.

To build inclusive markets, we supported 11,894 farmers through Village Savings and Loans Associations, while also strengthening entrepreneurship by backing 32 businesses led by young people.

At the same time, we worked to create an enabling environment by supporting 2 multi-stakeholder platforms that promote inclusive business practices and sustainability in the sector.
